A Study on Labyrinths

Description
Based on my thoughts on navigation in the interactive video “Im Trug der Schwelle”, I began to explore the formal principles of labyrinths and recorded
the results of my research in a booklet.

Wax casts were created, to be then developed into a digital model using photogrammetry and 3D technologies. This model can be explored virtually and
follows the design principles of the Cretan labyrinth. It is a long, winding path with no branches. However, based on the concept of “Im Trug der Schwelle”,
there is no centre in this labyrinth – meaning there is no destination. The visitors are trapped in an endless cycle.

Sounds with distance attenuation are placed at various locations. As they walk through the labyrinth, the visitors are repeatedly made aware of their proximity
to and distance from a sound source and the associated supposed destination.
